Mr Gay Ireland and Mr Gay Northern Ireland is now in its tenth year. MGI is a civic and visibility project founded by Brian Merriman and run by volunteers from the International Dublin Gay Theatre Festival (www.gaytheatre.ie). The all-island event promotes visibility for young gay people, and safe sex awareness, in cities, towns and communities, especially in rural Ireland. Contestants are visible locally and take part in an intensive weekend of confidence building, gay rights advocacy, networking, civic society engagement and fun each October Bank Holiday weekend in Dublin. Over the past few years, contestants have exclusively fundraised for the New Fill HIV facial reconstruction service at St James Hospital Dublin. 100% of the funds raised by the contestants is donated directly to the New Fill facial restoration service at The Guide Clinic (sexual health) whose volunteer doctors and nurses inject collagen where facial muscles of people living with HIV, have wasted as a result of a reaction to some HIV medicines. To date our contestants have donated 145,000 euros to HIV and gay causes since 2005.
Sponsor MGI :
Sponsors can support Mr Gay Ireland as funds are needed to host the 20 heats throughout the country and to ensure this fundraising opportunity continues to donate 100% of funds raised to this underfunded and vital charitable cause. We also send our winners to compete in the Mr Gay World (Ireland won in2009) and Mr Gay Europe (Ireland won in 2013) competitions, where Ireland holds a considerable track record of success. Ireland has been to the forefront in promoting a human rights agenda at these events and in building an international network of solidarity between LGBT communities who can live in freedom and those who can not. Any additional funds raised will support the 12th International Dublin Gay Theatre Festival (May 4th-17th 2015) creating in Dublin a unique mainstream space for diverse artists to tell their stories through theatre as an artform.
